Ball Python Morph Background Information and Primer |
Spider
ball pythons are a color and pattern morph that resembles an extreme reduced pattern
ball python (lacking normal "wild-type" features). Their color is oftentimes
referred to as being "golden" and they have a range of white speckling
on their sides. This degree of speckling is what constitutes a low, medium or
high white spider. Spider ball pythons also have very unique head patterns that
separate them from other ball pythons. They also appear to be more "aware"
of their surroundings and have been known to move their eyes as they observe their
keeper. Spider ball pythons cross very well with other morphs to produce extreme
color and pattern variations when "blended" with other morphs. Breeding
with a Spider has created Bumblebees, Killer bees, Lesser bees, Honeybees and
others. Spiders are dominant-trait based animals so there's no way to visually
tell if hatchlings from the clutch are the "super" version by visual
inspection alone. Since Spider ball pythons are dominant-trait animals, statistically
speaking, when bred to a normal ball python half the clutch will be Spider ball
pythons and the other half above average looking normal ball pythons.
