I fed my BP tonight a good sized rat. In fact it was a lot bigger then I expected and he had a little difficulty getting it down. So there's one worry, but temps are correct so I'll just keep an eye on him.

Next, is it normal for them to make a few noises while snakes are constricting? I noticed he was making little *sighing* noises, but I'm pretty sure it was just because when he constricted, one of his coils ended up on his nose! Am I correct in assuming this?

And lastly, I am praying that it was just my stomach making a gurgling noise and not Irwin's. Can a snake's stomach even make that noise?

Hey Shorty,

It is normal for snakes to make the sigh noises you hear. Your snake is just breathing. For example when you take a deep breath of air an exhale. It’s the same for the snakes. As for the stomach sound it was probably you.

I've heard the sighing thing before. Not very often, but i've heard it. No worries there.

The gurgling noise could have been a couple of things. It could have been the rats insides exploding (nasty) or the rat attempting to breathe. I've heard rats growl before when being constricted it's like there either trying to breathe or yelp and they can't.

I wouldn't worry to much it's happens. Just monitor it the next time you feed.... Wink

That is actually exactly what it sounds like. A sigh. Makes sense.

Logically, since snakes can "break wind," I am sure that their stomache can "gargle."

It would take a very observant owner to catalogue all the noises that it's normal for a BP to make. Laughing
