|
I have come to believe from observing my snakes and seeing an egg-bound animal that the same way a human knows instinctively which things may be bad for her while preparing for pregnancy, snakes know what they are supposed to do and are "hard-wired" to know the preparations.
In my opinion, if the female continues to eat during breeding, or hasn't stopped eating soon enough that her system is clean, it's very possible that she could go into laying at the same time that the "waste" is in the way. This "blockage" makes the egg passage too narrow for either to pass and thus she may become egg bound (this is only one example of egg-binding).
Ron has more information on the subject: http://www.rcreptiles.com/articles/egg-binding-in-reptiles.html
Why do males stop feeding? Why do males do anything??
The above post is an opinion, and some information to get budding breeders started.
