I have a tree inside that he can hide in but he never seem's like he wants to hide in it just climb around for fun. He like's to lay or curl up out in the open. I have only had him a week. Is this normal?

If you have had your snake for a week, I'm sorry if I sound like I'm scolding here, but you should have read up thoroughly on your pet by now.
Hiding is normal and essential behaviour for your snake, so if it's not hiding, it probably doesn't have proper hides. Trees are fine for climbing but they don't make good hides. Hides should be big enough for the snake to fit inside with not too much extra room (they like to be snug) and with just one entrance hole just big enough to get inside. It needs to be nice and dark and private in there for your snake.
If you can't get anything soon, you can make hides from appropriately-sized boxes, plastic containers, flower pots, etc. It's best to have 2 hides, one on each side (warm side/cool side--do you have a warm/cool gradient yet?).

No you don't sound scolding at all. It was one of those last minute decision. I got a good deal on him. Anyway im doing all my research now. Tomorrow I will go out and buy everything I need. Thank you very much for your help. For something to hide in they have those tree barks that kinda resemble a cave. Are these good?

If you're talking about those half-log things, they aren't ideal because they're open on both ends. The best hides have just one small opening.

Its good that you are asking questions because the first step to good pet care is research and asking questions, but yea the half log isnt ideal but if it is all you can afford then go for it but you may want to push it against the edge of your closure and make sure that the side is covered by a black sheet of paper that way it thinks it only has one way in, but good start.

That one is debatable since I dont have the same hide and she regulates her temperature just fine, Its more important to get the right size hides then ones that look alike.
