i feel stupid asking this and i tried to figure it out on my own but i think it would be better just to ask - what exactly is "blushing" in the patterns?

First of all, there are no such things as silly questions...just silly people who ask questions.
Blushing is a brightening of color on a snake, usually along the dorsum. You see it a lot with pastel ball pythons. Take a look at the areas surrounded by red circles in the picture below. These are some of the blushing markings on this snake.
Normally the color there would just be black or very dark brown.
