(KMOV) -- A Metro-East resident is frantically searching for seven snakes that went missing after a car hit two homes.

It happened Thursday morning on Chateau in Fairview Heights, IL near Highway 159.

The resident reports that seven of his 11 snakes are missing. He is missing one rainbow boa, four corn snakes, one sand boa and one prairie king.

The snakes were reported missing after a vehicle hit the garage of one home and the side of another, causing extensive damage.

Police say that a man was driving down Chateau when he lost control of his vehicle, hit the garage of the first house and then came to rest in the side of the house next door.

The driver, who suffered minor cuts and scrapes, told police that he had been ill and passed out just before the crash.

Police do not believe that the driver was speeding and they do not think that drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.

Car slams into home temporarily freeing several snakes

02:10 PM CDT on Thursday, April 3, 2008

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) -- A car crash in the Metro East led to a reptile roundup.

Police in Fairview Heights say a car clipped one house, then crashed into the basement of neighboring home occupied by a snake breeder.

You guessed it -- the accident broke open several of the home's glass cages, freeing their slithery contents.

Police say none of the 10 snakes were venomous, and it appears they've all been rustled up.

The car's driver was taken away in an ambulance to be treated for what were described as minor cuts and scrapes.

He told police that he had been ill and passed out just before the crash.

Police do not believe that the driver was speeding and they do not think that drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.

The accident is being investigated.
