I have a 20 long tank to house my little guy. I am having a hard time getting the temp up and I know for sure the humidity is low even though I haven't checked it. Just started out and I am still getting all the tools of the trade. I have an under tank heater and a basking light and the temp stays around 88-90 on the warm end and 77-80 on the cool side. The size heater under the tank is the one recommened for a 20 long and the light is a 50w spot basking. Screen top is covered trying to contain the heat. Any suggestions? I think I will be constructing a humid hide, and sugg. on this too? The strange thing is, the little guy stays in the cooler end most of the time or right in the middle of the tank. I have seldom seen it on the area covered by the heater. I have read where you all say that yours stay hidden most of the day, where mine seems to prefer being out. Think its the hide, (half log type) or do I have one thats trying to see the TV. I am hoping its the TV cuz it has got to be a SOONERS FAN BABY!!! haha
Thanks all

Hey worm!!!!!!! Cool another Okie on here. It has to be the SOONERS.!!
I think I will be constructing a humid hide, and sugg. on this too?
I took my small water bowl, put some T-Rex Jungle Bed in it, keep it moist and put my half log over it. When Ariel is in pre-shed, she stays in there a lot. I have a stick on temp/hygrometer that is inside the tank at the back in the middle. It measuers ambient temp and the relative humidity inside the tank. Then I have another theremoter that has a probe that measures temp on the warm side. I put it right under a layer of substrate, that way she won't get hung up in the wires. Everything else sounds pretty good. Deb, or ayone.... any more suggestions??

I am tired of shooting myself in the foot. LOL Need to see a pic, cause he's guessing at the temps and I need concrete information. As to humid hide, I use an upside down clay pot over some damp paper towels and put it down on the hotside. My racks are heated from the back which is a more uniform belly heating.

The temps I have are measured. I use the accurite therm but they don't have a hygrometer. I have one on order so will have that soon. I have the therms set up one on each side. The one on the hot side is about 1" from the bottom over the heater. He spends most of his time in the area of the cooler side where the temp falls around 77-80 range. If he was getting cold wouldn't he move to the warmer side. Wondering if MAYBE my temps are fine for him even though per other info they are running a bit low?

If you are using those tape on thermometers, they are very inaccurate. I don't know what to tell you without a pic.
