Hello,

I have a small number of small ants in my enclosure. I don't know what they are after. Can this be a problem for my snake? What are they after? I tried to answer the second question myself, so that I could remove it and they'd go away but I don't know.

It could be a problem. We had a member whose snake was eaten by ants.

Think of it this way..ants are fearless and they can and will march anywhere up the heat pits in the vents under the scales and they will CHEW.

The snake is defenseless having no arms or legs and getting in water doesn't often drown these buggers.

That's a scary thought. They seem to have pushed off once I put the basking lamp on for the day. I'm still confused as to why they are there in the first place.

I think I'll spend some time today making sure that room is actually clean.

Ants are foragers, they go everywhere looking for food and then lead others to whatever 'source' of food they have found.

There may be crumbs or someone spilled something on the floor that initially attracted them and from there they spread? It doesn't even have to be near the cage..their foraging takes them afar in their search.

I have Ant traps in my snake and rat areas.

I guess I'll also have to get the Orkin guy out here again, it's been about a month since the first time, and they're supposed to do it again a month later. I suppose that stuff is wearing out.

Thanks for the pointers.
