Hello,
I have had my hatchling for a few days now; It has been spending most of its time in its hide, which I realize is normal. I have been taking a lot of temperature readings and realized I had too much bedding above the under-tank heater. So I decided to remove some.
I stuck my hand in, and removed some bedding. This area was about 5" away from the hide opening. After about four handfuls, I saw a blur: it'd taken a swing at my thumb! I jumped back, that really surprised me.
It did not make contact but it really blows my mind how fast it was. Quite the opposite of the little snake slowly poking around for the past few days.
My question is this: Is this abnormal? I am guessing it is not abnormal, as it likely kept seeing my moving thumb as a heat signature, digging around a few inches in front of it. I guess there is another question: Is this an indicator that it is hungry? Or might it have just been anger/confusion?
I am still awaiting my shipment from themousefactory so I don't have anything to feed it at this time...
My heart is still beating from how fast it was! Wow!

Sounds to me like it was hungry maybe a case of mistaken idenity lol...
It's not that unusual for them to be a little nippy when there young......

One thing is for sure. It is many, many times faster than I am! I'll try to feed it after the vet visit. Got my mice, after they were delivered to the wrong address... I believe they thought I had to be doing some kind of science experiment (hehe).

It was more than likely a defensive strike.  But it is exciting! A rush when you are faster than a speeding bullet (at least faster than the snake)
In my opinion, it probably wasn't intending to tag you, but wanted to scare you away. ...even if it is hungry, it can wait a few days without any negative effects.

I have one that is about a year old. He has an appetite like no other snake I have ever seen.
If I stick my hand in that tub when he's hungry it's over. I get bit everytime. It's not that bad he'll usually let go when he realizes what he's done. Plus I can clearly see he's not doing out of spite he's just that hungry and his feeding response is outstanding. I have never ever ever seen a bp with that kind of appetite.
I WISH THEY WERE ALL LIKE THAT.......

For sure, I have a less than year old that won't let me drop the rat fuzzy, I get it inside the tank, if she sees me coming, she comes out and snatches it out of my hands, before I can set it down. My lil one says she is supa fass, lol.

Sounds like my monty, I doubt a prey item has touched the ground since I got him about a year ago. As your youngin would say, He's suppa fass
