Thats just my problem lately, seems all the rats want a bite, and I'm not cool with that. I've had to save them several times from almost certain bites. So if I can switch, I'd just as soon do so, even though I have a steady supply of live rats for ...cheap. Are some rats more aggressive? These rats seem fearless, lol.

I just lay the silly rat down, and the snake takes it. It Was kind of funny to watch him doing a lil dance around the rat to decide how to approach the head for swallowing, but I didn't have to "Do the dance" lol as many surely do. Now if my other 2 will be so easily persuaded to take P/K all would be fine Smile

I disagree. I breed my own and I specifically breed out the agressiveness. How? by dispatching any that escape, jump out of the tubs, bite, or show agressiveness in anyway.

Maybe it's just me, but my rats are not agressive and neither are my ASFs.

These rats don't seem "mean" just not afraid, and after repeatedly being stalked and then not attacked, they like to then come up and sniff, then try to taste the nice snake, arrgh.

It depends on where I go, but mice are usually under $2 for an adult which isn't too bad, but there pretty small... The rats are another story there anywhere from $5 to $8 per rat. That's for the rat pups and small rats which is ridiculous......

sky has always had frozen thawed
so she is staying with it i dont wanna change because
i wouldnt want to take the chance on her getting bit by what is going to be her food...anyway would you have a live crab on your plate.
i doubt it
the other thing is and i may be wrong but i believe if i was to feed live she would have to strike to catch her food.
sky is my baby i dont want her to strike so i certainly am not going to create a situation where she has to.

Mice 1-3$, depends where.
Rats are another story too because they go up the wazoo like 8-10$

My babe feeds on PK, but I'm starting him on the switch to FT. Cheaper to get a buncha rodents in a bag.

Sky doesn't strike her prey? Interesting. Most of my snakes eat live, but when I used to feed FT, they still struck and coiled the prey as if it were alive. I've seen other snakes eat without striking, but none of mine do.

I feel lucky to have a breeder close by, small & medium Rats are $2.50, large and jumbos are $5.00 Mice are $1.00 or $1.75
My het albino doesn't strike prekilled or F/T but does live obviously, lol.
My others are still stuck on live.
As for not wanting to have a snake strike? My big girl strikes em down, but is as gentle as can be, and has never shown aggression otherwise, so I don't think striking has anything to do with how tame the snake is, just a normal feeding response.

i get too nervous about the live stuff hurting my snake, so i go with frozen. i've seen some really hideous pictures of snakes that got beat up by a frightened mouse.

she strikes them but doesn't constrict them. it's kind of weird now that i think about it.

Personally I do feed live, It's more convenient for me and easier on my snakes (none have ever taken an offered F/t). I do this fully understanding the risk and have ALWAYS helped the kill. As soon as my snakes strike and coil I use my feeding tongs to pull the head away from the snake and break the rodents neck/help strangle it. To date I have had no bites and only one claw scratch that has drawn blood.

I prefer f/t. It saves me the trip to the store and are way cheaper than life. I do feed life when I go to swaps cause rat pups go for 75 cents each, mice 50 cents each. When I feed life I don't get involve with the kill unless is evident that my snakes are going to get hurt, that's when I tag in Smile
