This does not sound as if he just left the snake for two days! So, I would really like more information. I would like PICS if possible so that we can be educated.

JD, no one cares if you give advice, it's encouraged..that's how we learn (each one teach one) yet just like the rest of us (we do not know everything and I am constantly corrected by those that do know more than I...you know who you are  ), you also need to be open and accepting of constructive critizism.
I certainly did NOT mean to hurt your feelings and I do appreciate your input.

ok but that wasn't advice thats just more my opinion. I don't think that a snake would get eaten and attacked by ants if he was housing it properly and taking good care of it. Thats just my opinion. If there was that amount of ants where he was keeping the bp i assume he has seen the ants in that area before so he should have known to put the bp in a spot where it could not be harmed. I treat my 3 snakes like they are new born babies and check them a lot and try to do my best at keeping them.
*And yes i do need to take constructive criticism better but i don't see how you guys don't agree with me on this one.

Point taken.
I don't think any one is "disagreeing" with you. I think most of us are waiting for the rest of the story before we make a decision. From the post, I sort of get the feeling that this is not an event that happened in America and I, for one, would like to know more about the environment and definitely would like some pictures.

I agree with JD that it's *possible* the owner did something wrong, but we don't know all the facts yet, so it's a bit premature to point fingers at someone who obviously already feels really bad!
I just recently had my first experience with ants in the house and was quite shocked at the places they ended up that I didn't think possible, and how quickly they could swarm when they wanted to. While this is a pretty much unheard of circumstance so far, I think this could be an easy mistake to make and really, who would expect it?? Who knew ants could be attracted to snakes??

I have ant traps all over the basement and house, boric acid spread out and fly strips too. I don't think it's so much the snakes that they are attracted to as perhaps the smell of dead prey, refuse and water? Ant scouts go out, find food and let the others know where it is...the fact that the snake can't fight back is a bonus.

I'm with you. It also makes me upset when snakes or other animals die in a way that could have been prevented. Once we acquired them, they're our responsibility. But, we still don't know all the facts on how it really happened.

Well i kind of know what the guy is going through. About a month ago i hasdn't held Perritas in a couple of days and everything seemed fine. I had been busy adn just hadn't found the time. Then i saw a few ants on top of the cage and got this really bad feeling. So i checked on her and found ants crawling all over her and the tank. I quickly gave her a bath and cleaned out her tank. While picking the tank up i saw that the ants had built a colony on the heating pad under Perritas's tank. I feed her in her tank so i guess that the scouts smelled the rat while she was eating it and decided to move in permanently. We quickly got rid of the ants but it was quite a scare. We had never had ant problems in my room before so i had never suspected it. After that incident i rearranged my room and put her on the opposite side of the room. She is fine now and no harm had come to her but she was traumatized after that for a few days but therecovered quickly. She is about three and a half feet long now and she'll be two years old on July 20! I have no idea where the person lived with the attacked snake. I don't think that it was entirely his fault. Ants are notourious for being very efficient at not being noticed and doing serious damage b4 the are noticed. I'm not saying that it wasn't compleatly his fault but then again i think that this could happen to anybody. but i agree in saying that pics would definitley help at this point.

I had my daughter-in-law and son with me as guests once and our house cleaning techniques are vastly different. While the house was under her care, I was invaded by ants, so I know how quickly they can get in and try to take over. I told them they had overstayed their welcome and quickly got the house back in order with Boriac acid (the ants never got to the snakes..they were concentrated in the kitchen) I haven't had any ants again yet..this might be because I clean once a week and have all kinds of ant traps around. But this scared me so bad, that I went down last night and checked everyone! 
Now imagine that someone fed their snake before they left to go out of town, and had plenty of water and fail safes on the thermosat..one would think it would be fine..but suppose the snake defecates....sounds like this is an accident waiting to happen and one that many owners hadn't considered.
