Sorry for all the people who don't care, but you can tell by the lighting that the snake wasn't actually on the man at the time of the photo. Even if you don't believe me about the lighting, it's logical that the pics would be separate just due to time and co-operation. You can't make a snake do a tie pose for hours on end!
The reason I'm pointing this out is because it shows other people prefer not to put a snake around their neck either!
(If you still don't believe me and really care, the reflection of the white from the man's shirt onto his neck is to great. If the snake was really on him, the reflective light would be darker and redder.)
But it is a great pic. I saved it for later

Only a photographer would have noticed that! Good catch!

Great, now pose it EXACTLY like the pose in the picture where it looks like a tie. Posing it while it's in the position that it wants to be in is a no-brainer.

That seems more draped over the shoulders than around the neck. This is cool. I just don't feel comfortable letting one of my BP's complete the circuit of my kids' necks with some overlap, then start their bit where they massage themselves with a little squeeze. That's when I get a bit nervous.

the way that he has it in the pic would be okay, but I still wouldn't trust it. A person can be choked out in under 9 seconds. If a snake were to get a tight grip around your neck and it was positioned just right it could cause a problem. If you add in panic time to that 9 seconds and trying to think about what to do it could be to late. That's not to say that if you did pass out and fall that the snake wouldn't let go, but what if it didn't. There's just to many downsides to the scenario.
There's been times when mine have gotten so tight around my arm that it caused my arm too fall a sleep which is basically the same thing it's still constricting blood flow. Thats just your arm think if that was your brain that was being denied blood or oxgyen....

Weird thing is, I've *tried* to make my snake complete a circuit around my neck, but she doesn't like to. She never constricts around any part of me; she likes to drape or keep moving.
Side note, something that just occurred to me--Kris, why was your BP at school? lol.... you seem a bit old for 'show and tell'.

Funny topic, a week after my brother let my 1000 gram female coil his neck(I told him don't be foolish) LOL. This is a totally docile snake, and has never even hissed, yet it coiled and almost choked him out, in 10-15 seconds or so. I had to carefully force her off his neck, which she did mostly willingly, lol.
I never let my snakes do a full coil, and holding the tail is an excellent idea for maintaining this. Draping is good, we do it all the time, just no coiling.
I have a 1900 gram female, and I can't imagine...

Yes, I agree. It is an interesting topic. There are many people that probably put their snakes around their necks and let it coil with no thought of the danger (it's rare..but could happen).
I am glad that your brother is ok, could you explain the situation more fully? Some people think that if the snake starts choking they can take it off their necks themselves.

Sure, he allowed my female a full wrap, she is not huge by any means, and she did what I think many balls do and thats to tighten up. I really don't know if this is instinctive or not, seems like all of mine will, if allowed, tighten up on full wrap. He wanted to remove said snake, lol, but to do so by him would have probably resulted in a hurt snake. I uncurled her starting with the tail, and she came off fairly easily, but did resist some.
My suggestion is if you feel the need, lol, to do this, at least have someone around to help unravel, but really, just not allowing a full wrap is in my opinion, the best way to handle your pet.

The only time I needed help unravelling was when my bp effectively handcuffed me. I don't remember how the positioning was exactly, but my wrists were crossing each other and there was a figure-8 involved, and a tail grip holding 4 of my fingers together. Had I been able to reach the tail with my other hand, I could have gotten out, but the other hand was just stuck somehow. I was well cuffed, and surely he would have relaxed the grip eventually, but at the time I would have injured him if I gave it all my might. Crafty little renegade.

R u kidding! I always let Perritas coil and constrict around my neck! To me it's like she's giving me a hung. As soon as it becomes to much power i just put the tip of her tail in my finger and he immediatly lossens up and if i want i can get her off my neck. The only problem i have ever had is when i was picking her out she got tangled in my hair and some people had to help me with her. She does like to get stuck in my hair often but it isn't anything that i can't deal with. So in my opinion i would say that it isn't a problem. But then again Perritas is only 23 months old. So i don't know if she's getting any bigger and stronger or not. But i would say if you want to then go for it! But i'm not an expert and i have been known to act without thinking first. It's always worked for me b4. But it's once again up to you.

23 months is still small, my big girl is 6 years old, about 4 feet long, and 1900 grams. She could choke you out fairly easily, if she got a full wrap. Yes I could pinch her tail and possibly/probably "make" her let loose, but I just don't/won't allow her a full wrap, seems silly to chance hurting her or me, but that's just me, lol.
My male is 24 months, so I understand your saying it's like a hug, was to my brother too, lol, till he found out the hard way, hehe.
