He's getting bigger and the tank is no longer sufficient to hold him and give him room to exercise. So...he's been moved out of the house.

This is the beginning...it will be better by time it gets cold. There will be a Kane pig heater on the floor of the house covered with some dirt and straw. I thought about cutting a small hole in the roof to put a heat lamp in..but I am unsure of my handywoman skills at this point. Laughing

Baltimore, rarely gets very cold, and there will be tarp over the door to keep out any brisk winds and the whole thing is weather proof...

Of course, during the worse weather, he will be inside in a kiddy pool with the UBV lamp on.

It will be made winter worthy by time winter comes! Laughing

Deb, an infrared bulb is a good option for some extra heat in there...don't cut a hole in the roof, though. Run the cord right through the door, and screw a small hook into the ceiling (the fixture for the light has a thingie to hang it - make sure you get the right one, though, a regular dome light won't hold up)

Thanks for the excellent idea!! Very Happy

After talking with you, I decided to make the environment half and half (dirt and Aspen) ..but I still think that straw, hay or Aspen gets too nasty with mold and whatnot.

He hasn't in the time that I have had him. He's more of a climber. Laughing

when the pen was set in the ground, it was low enough where he was ALWAYS getting out (climbing over); however, he was coming back. Now that I have it set high he's apparently unable to get over the pen and has contented himself with staying in the house buried under aspen substrate.

I am bad! I already purchased another one from SoCal..a baby Red-foot. I just love them.

Well, after taking into consideration the feedback that I received, I make some "improvements." However, I found out that those "improvements" didn't even have to be MADE!

Here's the story...after much consideration, measuring cutting and creating, this is what I managed to create...sigh.

Here's the new pen.

I come to find as we were digging space for the bricks that the ground underneath is ROCK. He couldn't have dug out even if he had wanted to. However, I had had a friend of mind digging the ditch so when I returned he had went ahead and dug to the best of his ability and since he had done all that hard work, I went ahead with the plans (otherwise he would have been PISSED! Laughing )

There is some PAM sprayed on the bedding to give him some respite from any ants, flies or other pesty critters. The Kane heat mat will be picked up shortly, and I will install the CHE and tarp before winter.
