ok, i've decided to try and post something about camera settings that may help novices like myself and others to understand their camera better.

i am by no means anything other than a true noob so maybe i shouldn't be explaining this but im going to give it a shot.

most digital cameras you can simply point and click on the auto setting and take a nice image but there are always variables that come into play. i have seen quite a few people post (including myself) the only way they can take a decent picture is with their flash raised, well if the light source is great then the flash becomes obsolete. so here are a few ways to manipulate your camera settings to take a better picture without the flash.

if you are using a macro setting on your camera, please select a shooting mode (like manual shooting mode) that will allow you to fully change your settings. first we will start with aperture http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aperture this is a setting which allows either less or more light to pass through an optical lens. where the greater the f# the less light is omitted. if you are shooting in low light settings you may want to open your aperture all the way up.

next we will discuss ISO http://www.dpreview.com/articles/compactcamerahighiso/, you can use this in junction with aperture and shutter speed settings at a compromise of image quality for low light shooting situations.

shutter speed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shutter_speed, this setting with aperture can greatly enhance your low light shootings. any shutter speed lower than 1/60th will probably require a tripod.

all this sounds greek to most of us, but since there is not any film per se that we actually waste, i encourage all of you to pull out your digital cameras (read the manuals on how to adjust these settings) and start shooting. also with this week being a tax break on hurricane related items go out and stock pile on batteries and fine tune your cameras!

i hope this helps some of you who would like to take a better picture. if anyone has anything else to add on how to enhance or take better pictures then please feel free. also as i stated i know nothing about digital cameras or photography for that matter so if i stated something wrong please correct me. i am trying to learn through friends who have taken a photography class and from reading.
