|
Momma mouse had pups today! Kind of morbid, but I like snakes more than rodents. A whole lotta pups! The first time she only had 8, this time more like 16! She's healthy and eating well, and of course, Poppa is already trying for litter #3, that scoundrel. I don't want to disturb things too much, and pics through the plastic tub are just no good. I'll take photos so you can see just what all you wanna B breeders are in for.
If not for these two mice, I would have already started breeding rats, but my '06 girls seem to like eating them meeces soo much, maybe just a litter or two more... just till the girls are a bit bigger... and the rats have a litter.

Ok, so I had to look. More like 10 or 12 pups, hard saying, them all piled there. Life, no matter how small, is just so cool...
Promised pic-
Momma is the Albino and Poppa is the Gray and White

I might have to look into breeding my own mice.
Would it be worth it if I only have 3 snakes?

All I have is 3 snakes right now. The 2 small ones eat an adult mouse every other or every third day, depending on activity, shed, deficating...
The big one, still a teenager, eats a small/medium rat once a week.
Rats are better food, more protien and less fur and bone, but mice breed twice as fast and take very little room.
They are great for my little ones, perfect size, they don't keep getting bigger like rats (in case they decide not to eat for 2 weeks!) Just seems silly for a 1500gram snake to have to eat 6 mice a meal! I've heard of it, but it seems like alot of work!

By mice I meant rats lol
Is there much of a difference between the 2 with regards to breeding?

I would think that breeding rats/mice would pay off in the long run.. you do the math $3 (rat) x 3 (snakes)=$9 a week x 52 (weeks)=$468 a year
and that is just based on if your snakes only eat one rat apiece. (also that is what the pet store guy charged me for rats for fang-they run for everyone else $4-5 dollars apiece.)
