Ok so I currently have a BP and a Corn snake. I am planning on getting 2 more BP to breed, a male and a female. So I plan on getting a rack that can house around 4-6 adults. Also I like the ones that have like optional smaller tubs for hatchlings. So I want to hear what everyone thinks would be best for my situation. I don't want to spend a ton of money on this.

Here are some of the ones I have been looking at...

http://www.animalplastics.com/

* the AP Economy Plastics

http://www.boaphileplastics.com/rhinoraxx_five_sideways_blanket_rubbermaid.html

* I like this one but that guy charges a lot more than the others.

http://reptilebasics.com/Iris-Sweaterbox-Rack-32-Qt-Belly-or-Back-heat-p-16197.html

* This one is very nice.. I like the optional dividers

http://www.jasons-jungle.com/racks.html

* The 5-Slot Adult Rack and the 5-slot Sideways Rack

*** So those are the ones I have been looking at. Let me know what you think of them. If you know any other ones that are good please tell me.

Thanks

I have 3 of the ones above:

Jason
Boaphile
ReptileBasics

They are all very similar..so break them down by cost and service. JJ is more expensive, and heavy (but I love them and he's very prompt)

Reptile basics is very good and shipping is free. The difference is they are a 4 slot rack and JJ is a 5 slot rack..so you would have to factor in the price and difference to see which one is cost effective.

Boaphile is SLOW and not very reliable (my experience).but they eventually come though (after a lot of stress).

Basically it comes down to convenience, cost, and time.

Thanks a lot for the help with those.
I am stuck between Jason and Reptilebasics. I like Reptilebasics a little more because it has the optional dividers so I can house smaller snakes. I wish the Reptile basics just made it a 5 rack then it would be perfect.

hey Deb, with the rack systems, is there a space between the top of the sterilite tub and the rack system? I made my own racks from melamine, and I don't know the right way. I was going to leave about a 1/16 of an inch space for air and humidity release, but should i just make the tubs touch the top?

I'm not an expert but wouldn't you just put holes in the tubs for air?

there is about a 1/32-1/16 gap.

i like both the reptilebasics and the JJ

reptilebasics doesnt make the 10 slot rack i want so im getting it through JJ as it comes with heat and tubs ( i like the enclosed racks better)

with JJ as they are heavy and larger the shipping is a little costly but quality is GREAT..all my racks are going to be JJ

Reptile basics ( Rich ) has some great racks at great prices and i like the 2 i have from him

Thanks for your thoughts nick!

I most likely will end up getting the reptile basics because of the dividers and free shipping.
But first I need to convince my parents to let me get the het albino pair so I can start breeding. Its hard to convince to them that owning more snakes and breeding them will pay of in the future because I want to work with animals/snakes when I grow up (wether it be the movie business or breeding, or both). They see it as a simple fad that I am going through and I wont want them in a year or so.

Just print out a price list for albinos and show it to them Smile

P.S I have an AP rack and they are nice but need to be put together and they take their sweet time shipping them (five weeks). I like JJs a lot, and will get my next rack from them

Keep in mind that part of that 5 weeks is construction/preparation.
They have various options available, so the racks are made to order, for the most part...and many of the companies work in bulk - ie they'll do the cutting/shaping for a week's worth (or however many) of orders for one size cage, then do the next size, then move to racks. It makes sense from a business perspective to do it that way, but it may take longer for the consumer to get his product.

Yah I like the JJ 5 slot adult but i wish they had optional divider because I dont want to house my baby ball pythons in 32qt tubs. The AP has the dividers so I can give them a smaller house and once they are bigger I can just take the divider out and they can have the 32qts. Also I dont want to pay 300$ plus shipping for JJ's side rack thing where there are room for smaller snakes but the tubs are small and big so once all my snakes are big I would have to get more tubs.

Or you can always wait for the next big reptile show near you so you can get them there and wont have to pay for shipping

You don't have to..the holes are more for ventilation (humidity wise). The racks themselves are not airtight.

Deb which rack would you say is your favorite? Also if I got the JJ 5 slot adult rack what could I put the babies in?

*** I am actually considering making my own.. the only hard part i think will be heating. I have seen some videos online and some models i know i can build.

Jason Jungles because you get 5 racks instead of 4, but Reptile basics gives you free shipping to compensate for the lack of a fifth tub and they aren't so heavy.

Ahhh, I love them both.
