ok you need two hides. one on the cool side and one on the hot side. this is so the snake can regulate its body temp. also, how big is your tank? and are your thermometers digital or analog? if analog you need to buy some difital ones because they are much more accurate. just look up on some basic bp caresheets and you will be on your way.
and welcome to the forum

A thermostat will regulate the temperature of your BP so tat it dont over heat at least say 100 to 110 which a UTH without at least a Rheostat will get up to, a Thermostat is better because of the fact that it dont need to be adjusted on the changing temps in your room where you keep the snake with a Rheostat. 80 to 90 temp range accross the tanks is the optimum goal you should shoot for with digital thermometers that way it is more accurite the stick ones work good for a short time to give you a idea but eventually you want to step up. You can get a digital one at walmart for 6 bucks a piece if you looking for cheap ones. Anyways a 10 gallon is good to start with if you have a baby but as they get older you want to look into a 20 g long for a male and a 30 g for a female but if it is a baby stay with the 10 g till its gets older and then get a bigger one because the larger area just stresses them out and you dont want that. you want a water dish they can soak in if needed and you want to keep humidity between 45 and 60 percent and 70 percent during sheds to help them have a good shed.
You can get thermostats for like 40 dollars on some site but a helix is the most recommended since it doesnt turn off the unit just powers it down to a point where it keeps the temp you need. Hope that helps.

you want a UTH that covers about a 1/3rd of the tank bottem with a smaller tank you need a smaller UTH, but no you dont want to cover the whole bottem of it and make sure you get the tnak off the ground using the little rubber feet so that it dont over heat.
You can use a overhead light to help but it isnt needed since they are nocturnal.
