My next door neighbor's daughter found this little fellow in her garage on Friday. Her dad caught it and handed it over to Mrs. 99, who kept it in a container until I got home. The little guy was very stressed out, so I didn't keep him any longer than it took to snap a few shots for posterity. I looked up his natural habitat requirements and found the perfect spot for him in my back yard to release him. Apparently they are rare and difficult to find, so this was a real treat.

Prohibited in Virginia to buy or sell these, not sure about elsewhere.
It is fine in Virginia to collect up to five for personal keeping. They are not currently listed as threatened or endangered (and I should clarify my earlier statement: they aren't "rare" per se, but it is unusual to find them).

The neighbors to our right bring snakes to our attention, the ones to our left decapitate first and ask questions later. That whole family is afraid of snakes.
All outdoor photography sessions take place on the right side of the house.
