Burm: Burmese Python
C.B.: Captive Born/ Captive-bred
W.C.: Wild-caught snake, not captive-bred.
Cervical dislocation or bonking: What's usually done to mice and rats before feeding.
Crew: A newborn mouse with a small patch of fur that looks like a crewcut.
Dry bite: A bite that doesn't contain venom.
Fuzzies: Slang for a young mouse just starting to get fur.
Gut loading: Feeding a good meal to the intended food animal before feeding the animal to the snake.
Hoppers: Adolescent mice..they hop when startled.
Humidity box: A high humidity area for a snake; for example a plastic box stuffed with semimoist sphagnum moss.
LD50: How venomous a snake is. The lethal dose to kill 50 percent of a population, usually mice.
Mice on ice: Prekilled frozen mice.
Mousicles: Same as mice on ice.
Mouse (or rat) lax: Injecting a pk mouse (or rat) with a mineral oil to help a constipation problem.
Pinkys and pinkies: Newborn mice that are too young to have fur.
Popped pinkies: Just born mice
Power feeding: Giving snakes extra food, sometimes by placing more in their mouth just as they are finishing a regular meal.
Pups: Very young rats or mice.
Retic: Reticulated python
Scenting: Fooling a snake into eating something by mixing it with the scent of something they might prefer.
Screamer: A term used by people selling snakes to indicate that their snakes ae outstanding or unsual.
SFE: A stupid feeding error, an action that results in a snake strike. Like touching a mouse before reaching to hold your snake, or reaching into to pick up a snake that just got done swallowing prey.
Spiking: Putting food into something though something else: for example, wormer may be injected into a dead mouse before being fed to the snake.
