As some of you know, I am going out of town for a week.
This is just to let you all in on my preparations as far as making sure that my animals do not suffer in my absence.
The snakes have been fed, Wednesday; their cages were cleaned Friday. I will do a final water check tonight to make sure that they have plenty of water and if they knock it over, it's still all good.
The rat and gerbil racks have also been cleaned and the rats have an automatic watering system, so all I have to do is shovel food on the troughs and they are good to go.
This is the rat with the apparent inner ear infection..she's just given birth to a nice litter, so I don't want to bother her.
The rabbits were a challenge, but I have managed to make sure that they were amply taken care of...peep this!
The basic hutch fell apart!! I had to be creative and "glue" it back together so that they could no longer get out.
Building an extension to the hutch so that they can exercise (will also reduce the tendency to chew the hutch up ).
The final product:
Rigged up a water hose so that they would have constant running water.
Made sure that if the bottom fell out while I was gone (I did ensure that it wouldn't!! but..just in case) wrapped wire around the legs and covered up the empty spaces with more wire.
And that's how I take care of MY animals.

Thanks all!
Nick, I did the basic rabbit hutch repairs ALL BY MYSELF! including installing screen in the hole on the side and putting in a new reinforced floor.
For the rabbit run, my grandkids and a friend helped

Arrived home and all was well. Still plenty of food and the water hose was JUST the thing. They are fat and sassy, but STILL no babies!!
Nick, I thought it was going to be easy? Yes, I sexed them, I have two females and one male. I gave the lop-ears to the grandboys, because they aren't actually the kind of animals that I want to be breeding for food, they are too tame.

You're right Py, I have a new fence in the front now.
Ron, guys, I gave this project up because some "bleeding heart" had been coming into the yard and untwisting the gate and letting the rabbits out. I re-captured the rabbits ONCE and the next time I was too tired so I dismanteled the hutch (destroyed it) and shooed the rabbits away. I never got a chance to see how this would work.
However, I am thinking of trying again...later down the line.
