The Captain got a piece of substrate in his mouth. He keeps "yawning" to spit it or swallow, and I have been trying to swipe it with a q-tip. Is this a good idea to help him or will he work it out? I dont want to have him swallow something he shouldn't, or struggle with it, or even aggetate him after feeding. Any suggestions?

Hi Kubi!
Usually, substrate is not a problem for balls. What kind of substrate are you using?
I am sure you know that Balls typically yawn after eating to realign their jaws. However, if I understand you statement, you are saying that he is continuing to yawn and that you can see the substrate and it seems to be bothering him. If this is the case, then I would gently pick him up not from above, but scoot your hand under his belly and pick him up. Now you can look closely and see if it is something that you can handle yourself or if you need a vet. I wouldn't recommend pulling anything from the snake, because I am not there to see if it is actually lodged in a place where it would damage him if you pulled it out. I do not know if it is in the corner of his mouth, or down the middle or where.

I always feed my snakes in a clean plastic tub, to make sure that no substrate is ingested. If A LOT of substrate is ingested it can cause impaction. But in your case I don't think there is anything to worry about.
