I am considering purchasing a ball python and have never owned a snake before, and every site i have researched has said that they are good for beginners, and i was wondering if i could get some insight on caring for and owning a python.

Ron has a excellent blog as stated and he has a list of care sheets available to you.

Alright, they are easy to care fore but you need to be able to know that it is a hobby you may be addicted to and will cost some money to start, but I find it very rewarding.

My first snake was a ball python, and I had no problems. Pretty much everyone goes through the initial challenges of getting temperatures and humidity right, and you end up spending money as you go to make adjustments until you have everything dialed in. After that it's smooth sailing until your snake stops eating and you panic, or your snake makes a funny sound and you panic, etc. Just keep us in your favorites and we'll talk you through it all. Ron's blog is also an excellent resource, as others have said.

There are other good candidates for first snake, but you can't go wrong with a ball python.

Research care requirements in detail and create and test the habitat before you buy, then buy direct from a breeder. Those steps will go a long way toward ensuring your success.
