Newbie with Shedding/feeding question

This may have been answered somewhere previously...and I did read many of the threads...however I didn't find my answer and need to keep moving forward! As my name might suggest, we have my son's class Ball Python for the summer with pretty good information about feeding, handling etc. But not complete apparently.

She was supposed to eat Wednesday, however since she was obviously about to shed we didn't. Now that the shed is complete I have two questions that were not addressed...

One being are the any handling restrictions post-shed?
2nd is although the paperwork suggested "skipping" feeding if she looked like she was about to shed...do we wait the 2 weeks or go ahead and get her a rat?

I really do feel silly...and I would ask the teacher, but this week she is on vacation...of course!

After shed I handle my BPs as I regularly do. I'm guessing she feeds every two weeks?? and she was do to feed this past wednesday. I would wait until next Wednesday to feed her again (not to mess up her schedule too much)
U might want to wait and see what the more experienced keepers have to say about it.

Well you came to the right place....

There's no real post-shed handling problems. Feel free to take your bp out. Sometimes there scales are a little sensitive after a shed and there a little ticklish if you will, but like I said feel free to hold it.

You can also try and feed as well there usually pretty hungry after all that work. If it doesn't feed this time then just wait a week and try again.

Thank you! We'll give her a few days and pick up "lunch". Yes, PlayBall she eats every two weeks. I have to say I was surprised that the rats were "fancy" colored...I just assumed they would be grey. Yeah - new reptile mom. Surprised

We haven't taken many photos but this is her about a week ago in her favorite spot...being worn as a belt by my son. She definitely likes him best!

You can feed her this week, or wait til next week to keep her "on schedule"...it won't hurt the snake.
Feeding schedules are largely a human convenience. While I may be obsessive about some things, including various aspects of my husbandry practices, I tend not to adhere to schedules very well for an extended period of time. I start out intending to feed baby snakes weekly - usually spacing feedings anywhere from 5-10 days, depending on species - but, with the exception of a few of my favorites, it doesn't take long for me to start drifting...a little early here, a few days extra there, skip a week or so. I'm sure that some will find that unacceptable, even substandard, but its really not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things.
