|
Hi,
So when I was buying stuff for Cain's habitat the sales clerk assured me that the stick on humidity and stick on thermometers were completely accurate (I know better than to trust employees at a petco now ) so I bought them.. Now from joining the board i've realized that he was WRONG. So i'm trying to fix my err asap.
Now I know there are already topics about the thermometers and thermostats and i've read them. I'm still kind of having a problem finding the right one though.
So my questions are..
Does it matter if the thermometer says that it's supposed to be a grill/barbecue/smoker thermometer? Or is it basically the same thing with the same functions?
Also the Walmart/target/home depot I live by doesn't carry Acu-Rite (or at least the one that has been discussed on the board). Does anyone know any where other than the internet where I can find one? Or is there an alternative thermometer that is sold at those stores or something like them that I can buy in its place?
Would it be wise to have a laser thermometer to check temps instead or as well??
& What functions should I look for when buying a thermostat and a thermometer?
--Oh and I will be posting pictures of the set up and Cain when I get the chance.

A t-stat is a must and a digital thermometer with a probe is perfect. It really doesn't matter what kind just one with a probe. Check this thread out on t-stats and it should help....

Well laser thermometers are great too but don't skim on them buy the good one's....
What is your question about t-stats. I should be able to answer them. You'll probably have to purchase them through the internet I don't know to many places that sell them around me anyways. There are a ton of them out there just do a search for reptile t-stats on google....

Oh okay. So would it be best to get a Reptile Tstat? Cause I was looking for them and the regular ones just don't seem like they'd work or they don't have enough outlet plugs in them for the light and the heat pads.

oh oh oh, are there any thermometers that have two probes? I've only seen them with one. Or do I need to get one for each side?

you can use the thermometer as a measuring unit on one side and run the probe to the other side. i think thats how a lot of us do it.

Oh, I see.
Great. Thanks alot!!
I've started to put things together. I see that the thermostat can be set up to multiple outlets so thats how tht works.. and if the thermometer is set on one side and then the probe the other that also helps me kind of understand it.

Yeah you got it. The heating source whatever it is should take care of the temps on the cool side without having to do anything just make sure your thermometer is keeping temps on the hot side and the cool side....
