Can the length of anal spurs be used to sex a BP?

My friend and I both bought a BP from the same place at the same time. Hers is a bit smaller and the anal spurs are not felt while handling. The anal spurs on my BP are quite noticable when handling (you can feel them as he moves across your hand). I've read that males have longer anal spurs so was just curious if that might be an indication I have a male and she may have a female?

We don't plan on breeding, so doesn't really matter, was just curious. (didn't even to think to ask at pet store when we got them, but figured they probably wouldn't know any way)
