Hey everybody, im looking into switching my ball from two feeder mice to a small rat and i was wondering how to defrost a frozen rat. Do i put it in a microwave or put in warm water or what?

Just simply take it out of the freezer, no further action is needed, it will defrost at room temperature.

Allow plenty of time (overnight) for it to defrost, then just before you wish to feed it to your snake place it in a plastic bag, and dunk it in hot water, to try and raise the body temperature from room temp to normal blood temp of a rat, this helps to fool the snake into believing it is alive.

I put mine in a plastic container(tuperwear) and the un top of an open lamp...i chek on it every 5 to 10 min or so then i dunk him in hot water for about 3min...very hot water but not boiling water...you dont want the meat to cook...by not putting him in a plastic bag and giving him to eat wet to your bp...you make shure hes getting hydrated at the same time

Definitely don't put it in the microwave, unless you enjoy cleaning your microwave.

Hello, what i usually do is take out the rat or mouse and put it in a hot container of water for 15-30 min depending on the size of food and then when it's thawed i just take it out and offer it to Perritas and she readily takes it. WARNING- Do NOT I repeat do NOT put the rodent in the microwave. The rodent will EXPLODE and your microwave will be RUINED!

Just an FYI there for future reference. Very Happy
