|
Elaine, aka Nurse Ratched, my female Biak GTP with trust issues, managed her third escape last night. The previous two escapes (one last year and one this year) were both just boneheaded mistakes on my part. This time she appears to have opened the door to her cage by herself.
Luckily she has consistently proven to be easier to find than my lone ball python escapee, Mrs. Nesbit (RIP). This time was no exception, as I found her on a perch under the basement stairs:
The first thing I did was vacuumed her off. There were spiders and their webs all around her, and I didn't feel like wrestling two or more critters at once. The vacuuming didn't seem to disturb her in the slightest...I'm guessing she was snoozing pretty hard after a night out on the prowl.
Getting her down was a cinch. I've been handling her quite a bit lately, and she gradually seems to be getting over her trust issues. Regardless, I didn't give her much choice this time and went straight for her head, but she didn't seem to mind too much. Once I had her firmly in my grasp, she let go of her wayward perch and came along peacefully.
Now I have to install locks on her sliding glass doors. Fun, fun!

Like I said, that's her third escape. If she's any indication, they're easier to find than other types of snakes. They'll go down to hunt (which she must have done to escape the reptile room via the crack under the door), but when they get tired, they go up. So I just looked up.
