Here an updated photo on my girl.... she's already hitting 440g empty...
Big eater... mice, rat, and gerbil.... I'm breeding rat now to satisfy her and my male lemon pastel.....

1. Wet tongue shot

2.She's really unhappy with me.... telling me to keep my hands off her

3. Side shot...

4. Here my boy... already hitting 1005g.... also eating everything....

5. A bit darker than the girl... but love him...

6. Striking "S" pose...

Hopefully, I can produce super pastels from this two in 2 years time.... Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

shakyhand's hand ain't so shaky!

Great photos! Excellent camera and lens for the job, but the equipment doesn't count for squat unless you know how to make the most of it. Clearly you do.

Pretty lemon pastel!
Looks very similar to mine, a bit brighter maybe : )
I've gotten more pics of my pastel balled up than any of my other snakes will give me, too cute!

FYI: Balled up means it's frightened... Cool

These snakes look quite laid back as if they were comfortable with the owner.

I admire the photography! Buck is right!~ My sucky pics are legendary Embarassed and I have a Canon EOS Rebel Xti !! Embarassed

Yeah Deb, very true, except my pastel sleeps balled about 25% of the time, but usually lays loosely coiled. I just take photo opportunities of him coiled up, rude me for waking him up like that. He never coils when wide awake, that would bother me.
I have tons of photos layed out and at play, sadly, my Konica Minolta Z6 is no match for this camera
Awesome close ups, love em...
Now if I had a pastel female, I wouldn't have to wait 2 years for a super, lol, arrgh...

I handle them almost daily.... and they are quite used to me and my children.... they will ball up but then open up almost immediately....

I'm working toward superpastel too... same here 2 years waiting....

For those interested with the setup, I'm using Canon 40D with Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro lens with MT-24EX flash attached which control 580EX flash wirelessly for back ground lighting.... but I feel 150mm lens is too long for snake... good for bug only...

Very nice!!
I use my camera for ebay mostly, lol, so it works well, and the Z6 has a nice super macro that takes some sweet pics. 12X optical, nice for a point and shoot...I'd so love to get a nice slr, someday, lol.
Ebay, used to support me, now it supports my addiction, haha...

I love the use of the slave flash, thats something I could really use!

I was told that point and shoot is the best camera for macro shots.... what matter most is.... take the shot.. Very Happy

Slave flash really open up photography isn't it? I'm still learning about lighting in photography... it really differentiates wannabie and pro... still haven't master it... still learning just like snake keeping....

Lighting is everything, after taking over 20,000 photos for ebay, lighting inside is especially critical for getting the color right. Purples and blacks, especially blacks, are my toughest to photograph.
My camera takes some sweet macro shots, I use macro quite often for close ups of my sales items.
I love taking pics, as my mom did when she was with us, a true camera hound she was, lol.
I learn constantly doing photography, as I do with snake keeping, keeping an open mind, that's the ticket Wink

Point-and-shoot typically puts you at the mercy of whatever lighting is available, and the flash comes straight from the camera which usually washes out the subject.

The point-and-shoot does seem good with macro, though. The biggest surprise on my camera (and this wasn't spelled out in the owner's manual) is that although macro mode may be turned on and the little flower icon is visible, it is not actually engaged unless I zoom in on the subject. When I do this, the flower turns blue, and that's how I know when it's cool to shoot. I can get focus without the macro actually engaged, but I don't get all the benefits of macro without zooming. I wonder to what extent this is a standard feature. Anyone else out there fumbling around with macro mode may want to try this. Turn macro mode on, step back a bit, then zoom back in and see if the icon changes colors or your camera otherwise behaves differently.

If I ever get my hands on a DSLR, I'm going with a 50mm f/2.8 lens, and I'll set up a large photo box with multiple lamps.

Shaky, thanks for sharing the camera info and the pic of your set-up.

HaHa, agreed!
Point and shoots also can be used with a slave, like shakyhand has in his shot, they work off your flash, never tried one yet, but hope to soon.
My camera has macro and super macro. The macro setting will allow you full use of the normal zoom, and the super macro uses digital zoom. I use super macro for most of my up close shots. I sell mostly womens clothing(ok under clothing, shhh) and take shots of tags for all my sales. After over 2000 sales made, and each item usually takes 4-6 shots or more to get "the one" my camera has wracked up more than a few shots , and those are only my sales items.
Snakes seem to be a wonderful target for photography, now only if they hold still just a bit longer, hehe. Laughing
