It has come to our attention that some with more experience than the common new herper may feel that we are too cautious in our advice.

This may be true. The reason for this is because regardless of how experts do it, they are experts and not the regular newbie. The forums are filled with posts about bites, loss of snake, accidents (my, I do sound like a fear monger!) The mods on this forum are dedicated to the health and welfare of all snakes; we primarily are focused on Ball pythons to be more specific.

While some may say there is "no risk" in this and "no risk" in that "if done properly." The fact remains that it does have to be done properly and in our experience, Newbies, being human without a "degree" or "specialized experience," MIGHT make a mistake (everyone makes mistakes). We make mistakes in the common set up of regular tanks!

I, personally, do not want to be the cause of any harm to a BP.. so bending in the opposite direction, I am very hestitant to give any advice that "may" result in harm to a BP, and neither do the majority of Mods and members on this forum. For this reason, we do stick to the tried and true methods.

For new members coming in, please remember the status of many of our members and refrain from encouraging them to "step outside the box." They will do this on their own as they mature in snake keeping, acquire the funds necessary to experiment with different modes of housing and creating larger environments, vets, and whatever may be needed to do things differently.

For now, we prefer to keep both snake healthy and the owner happy. We are not against anyone doing things differently.
