oh i was just asking cuz i'm planning to get a rack before the end of the year, and wanted to see what is best so i don't have to buy extra, or something different and so on. i might get adults too, is that ok as long as they were handled often?

Sorry about putting in my question, but it fits in this topic.

For a DIY rack, I do not feel comfortable with FlexxWatt, would heating cable work as a way to heat up the tubs?

I had one set up at one point, I used it like this:

I never could get the wiring to work!!

Also this:

The heat cable wouldn't stay put! Seeing what I used, perhaps you can avoid my errors.

sorry i wanted to see what others thought before i threw mine out there.

I would purchase a rack

those hides are good and come in diffrent sizes, that is not the only brand and if need be i can find some other brands that are the same thing in different sizes.

Vision racks are ok, Ron does use them and loves them from what he has told me ( well love is a strong word but he states he hasnt had any problems). I myself dont like them as much because they use heat cable and dont give you enough ( well seems like they dont) and have holes in the tops of each section which release humidity and heat. The few i work with ( not own,.....about 5 or 6) seem to be kinda tight and you spill your water when pulling them out or pushing them in.

i like enclosed racks that can be found at www.reptilebasics.com and www.jasonsjungle.com . these us 11" flexwatt that produce heat from the back and give good ambiant temps. belly heat isnt always best for hatchlings ( dont quote me on this as MANY people use them but from what i have read they cant regulate their temps as well as older BP's)

good luck on picking out what you want and if you need any help let us know

thx, i was looking at the 4tub iris sweaterbox from reptilebasic and was considering getting that first but realize that sooner or later in maybe less then a year timeframe i would have to get another rack which would sux. thx for the input tho, i wanted to see if anyone had pros and cons with this certain rack that i'm leaning towards since its big enough that i won't have to buy another rack at least 4yrs down the road. and yeah i just wanted to see if those hide measurements was big enough for hatchlings and when i need to get bigger hides since i used a tape measure to get an idea, maybe i made a mistake in measuring?? lol

Dragon, I use that exact same Vision rack. Thoughts:

  • Nick is right, they don't give you enough heat cable with your purchase. Maybe it's ok if the room is already 82 degrees, but my room is 75 and I have to concentrate the heat cable over just 6 tubs to maintain basking temps. You could pick up a second length of heat rope and use a separate thermostat.
  • I don't use hides with mine. Check out the pic below. I've got pegboard on the side to darken the area for them. Additionally, they can hide behind water the water dish and any substrate (like newspaper that curls up in front).
  • Ron told me once that secure, adult BP's do fine without hides in these racks, and I don't think he uses anything to darken the sides.
  • Gotta love the light weight and the wheels. This is an easy rack to use and move around.

Hope this helps.
