Don't know what got into me. Again. Last weekend at a reptile show in Richmond. My first colubrid.

Her name is Hershey. Originally it was Minerva, but we kept calling the snake a "he," because it just seems like a he, you know? I needed a way to remember, a constant reminder of her correct gender. So it's "her" plus "she", see? That, and if you look closely in the proper light (probably can't tell in the pics), she's actually a very dark brown, like chocolate, not black. Or maybe I'm imagining things. Mrs. 99 says the snake is jet black, and she's got more cones in her eyes than I do, so maybe she's right.

I've got her in a Vision rack tub. Hershey, that is, not Mrs. 99. That's right, a rack. Isolated from all my others by a pair of empty tubs. Measuring heat with a temp gun. Newspaper substrate, a water dish, and a hide. She doesn't use the hide, she just dips under the newspaper, which is why you don't see it in the pics: I had to lift it up to find her. When I get some free time I'll set her up in a tank because I fear humidity in the tub will be too high. Her water dish is at the cool end.

Last night and again when I took this picture this morning she rattled her tail to warn me off. If you've never heard it before, it's pretty cool. Take a deck of cards, play with it for a few months so the edges are all worn and frayed, then shuffle it. That's what it sounds like. Her tail is a blur when she does it.

Ok, two more pics, a close-up, and then one that shows off my kids' favorite feature about her: the smiley face pattern on her head.

Sweet Scott! Prepare for the onslaught of POO! They are crapping machines.

Hopefully it isn't on you though. My first cali poo'd on me a lot. He could even fling it with precision. It was quite a talent. My newest one has never poo'd on me.

I feed live because I love to watch them hunt.

She musked the seller but not me...yet!

Starting off on F/T because that's what he was feeding her, but as she gets older and I have some live prey her size handy, I'll be sure to sit back and enjoy the hunt.

Wow Buck, you are branching out! She's a beauty.

Hey! I see the smiley pattern, I also see a Playboy. Does anyone else see the Playboy bunny on its head? Laughing

No way to let that go. Nice Cal king. I also have my BPs sharing the rack with my Cal king. She's on the very bottom one bc they don't need as high temps as BPs and it's perfect for her. My first kingsnake did pood a lot while being handle and rattle his tale specially while killing its prey (f/t pinky lol) It took time to get him used to being handle but he finally stop pooing and peeing on me.
You have to love the playboy bunny on their head, which I'm still not able to find on yours. Deborah must have Super Herp vision or something. That playboy bunny on their head gave me the idea for my avatar and profile name. They are really cool snakes, enjoy.

I must be blind, I'm not seeing the Playboy bunny. I believe you, I just can't find it.

Now I see it. So much for Super Herp vision, I was really starting to believe in it.

I'll post some pics that don't required x ray vision to see the bunny for people that don't know what a playboy bunny looks like on a cal kingsnake.

Don't lose faith yet. The power is transferrable in small doses to those I chose. Nick is my brother. Cool Laughing
