yeah thats the reason i feed live, im not sure its gonna be defrosted all the way. mice are smaller and not as hard to thaw than a much larger rat but i still dont like doing it.

i think alot of people will put the prey item in warm water and change the water out back to warm every 10 minutes or so til its defrosted. others have some source of heat they use, whether its a defroster made specifically for mice or some other type of heater.

as you can see not an exact science.

I feed frozen to my colubrids, since they don't constrict very well. What I do is get warm water place the frozen rodent in, and let it defrost. I change out the water if its cold before the rodent is completely defrosted. Make sure to check the rodent to make sure that its completely defrosted. I do this by feeling the abdomen, and the head. The last thing you want to do is get a snake to eat a half-defrosted rodent.

if im not mistaken i think it was deb but i could be wrong was saying somewhere sells a little defrost machine type thing that you lay the rat under and it slowly heats it. i really might be mistaken though.

ME? A search may bring up the information, because I don't recall off hand. I do know that some rack builders incorporate a defroster in their designs.

Actually now that I think of it, PetSmart actually does sell an Arctic M'ice defroster that incorporates the use of a microwave. This may make defrosting easier for the novice.

Be careful though about the heat inside the mouse being hotter than outside.

Honestly, though, the mice in Petco are so small, I can't imagine any self-respecting BP getting full from them. It may be more efficent to use The Mouse Factory. Those come prepackaged (like a pound of beef) and cleaned.

Well i just got done with the first feeding, i just put the bag with the mouse in it in some warm water for 10 min. then changed the water and let it sit for another 7 or so, i check the mouse it seemed to be fully defrosted, and Maximus took it almost instantly, so i think he was pleased, he didnt strike at all though, just kinda moved towards it and slowly started eating , so im pretty sure he was brought up on frozen, i think he would be pretty unsuccessful catching a live mouse
