Are you using just plain white rats or fancys? I have heard from some sources that they dont like just plain white ones, and prefer the multicolored ones more.

He doesn't care what kind of rat it is, if it's a rat, he'll eat it (when he's not fasting).

Actually Ron, now that the topic has been broached, I have heard from several BP owners that their snakes prefer the dark colored rats. Knowing our tendency to project do you think maybe this is just coincidence?
*coincidence: they happened to offer a dark rat each of those times that the BP decided to eat.

ive heard from alot of bp owners that theirs will only eat white rats... mine also has yet to eat a dark colored rat, he will smell it but he may either just be not interested or because it smells like a rat..
i think these bps have us wrapped around their finger.... or whatever you wish to call it..

Yea, ever since I got mine I cant help but think of what I can do to make the enclosure a little better for her, I have a feeder white mouse for her in my car right now that I am gonna offer her tonight and while I do that I got a UTH for her and a Rheostat to throw on her cage to even out the heating of the cage. yea she got me wrapped around somthing well after the fiancee, but yea back on topic I would try a multicolored rat if you have tried both.

Our ball pythons are "equal opportunity" consumers so it doesn't matter what the color of the rat is (or mouse for that matter), they'll all treated and "consumed" equally.
In all seriousness, I have heard of such stories but never had any problems with one type of rat over another, that applies to mice as well. Perhaps we should start another thread on this topic if there's more interest to discuss this further (which I think there might be).

Well as soon as I get done dancing around my house like a little kid with a sugar high i'll type some So i've had this rat pup for about a month now and as many of you know Gary hasn't ate for me since I purchased him from Ron. Well the nasty little thing spilled his water all over his cage today so I thought it's been a week and a half since I tried to feed Gary and seeing as how I have no place to put the rat while I clean his cage I thought ah what the hell i'll throw him in with Gary while i'm cleaning well I got on here to check the sticky Ron put up for me thanks again Ron and as I was sitting at my computer which is directly next to Gary's cage I heard the worst but yet the best noise i've heard in a very long time a very very loud bang and a squell. Curious as I was Gary came out of his hide and struck the rat and killed it and as I type he's taking it down. Finally all is right with the world! Thank you all for your advice and patientce during this fasting period Gary put me through.....

Hey whatever it takes as long as he eats i'll be happy. I can finally quit worrying about him. He didn't hesitate at all tonight the rat wasn't in there 2 minutes and he hit it HARD it shook the cage. I'll start breeding those nasty little rats if I have to as long as he keeps it up. It actually scared the crap out of me when he hit it I wasn't expecting him to do that I figured it would be just another night of peeking in the cage to see whats going on lol but i'm sure it was worse for the rat than it was me lol....

I love that noise as well, while feeding mine tonight it took like 6 minutes to get Ty interested in the mouse I brought home, but I was about to put her back, but I wanted to try somthing first turned off the light in the kitchen and in a minute bang squeak, only thing is that I had to get out the feeding tongs to hold the mouse's jaw so it didnt bite ty, but she killed it under a minute with such power. swallowed the mouse in a few minutes and went back in her cage to curl up under the uth hide to nap and digest, only down side no handling the next two days, but that is ok I am going out tomarrow night and will be to tired to do so when I get home. Glad to hear your gary if finally eating and doing it with a lot of power and aggression.

I would just like to say that my male ball just went off feed last week. He follows the food like hes hungry but wont strike. I am convinced its due to winter/breeding season although he isn't able to breed. Anyways, I am not too worried, on the plus side my female is cleaning up all his leftovers with fast ease.
