I have a quick question I have a 4 year old bp in a pretty large tub. My hot side is set at 91 and the cool side is at 83. I have left him alone for about a week now because he hasn't eaten for me yet I purchased from Ron about two weeks ago. His enclosure is in my room so at nigth I place a towel over it so he doesn't see me or the light. I'm trying to make sure he's settled in and comforatble so i've left him alone for about a week. I went to spot clean last night and change his water and well I couldn't help myself so I got him out he was on the cool side. When I got him out he was really cold I know snakes feel cold to the touch but he seemed more cold than usual. He seems very healthy when I got him out he was constantly flickering his tongue and was very curious and as always seemed to love being out. I just can't figure out why he would want to be that cold he knows where the hot side is to warm up.. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.....

it all depends really. can you post pictures of your set up for us?
do you have a hide on both the hot and cold side?
are the hides the same size ( if there are two)
how are you heating the tub?
what are you using to measure the heat?
what size is the tub?
i have many BPs that are choosing the cool side of the tub right now and this is because it is breeding season and they are cooling them selves off since i do not lower temps.
is the snake male or female?

he's a he I have a large uth on the hot side with the helix and a small uth on the cool side with a t-stat I have recently put in a log hide on the cool side the water bowl is over the large uth. I have two thermometers two hides and aspen bedding.....Another thing when I got him from Ron he was sexed wrong and they thought he was a female and was in the racks with all the females for awhile so I think the pheramones from the females may have sent him into breeding mode but i'm not sure I would have to say thats why he's not eating......

ok so you do have 2 hides. if the set up is the same as the pic just with the added hide i would put that rock hide where the bowl is and put the bowl more twards the middle.
he may just want to breed and thats why hes not eating. i have a male that is around 1200 grams that has been breeding the females and wont eat but i also have 2 males that are breeding that eat like champs.
when males cool themselves its to get the sperm flowing. just watch him i bet he goes to the warm side from time to time

Okay I just recently added the other hide and before the only hide I had was the log and it was on the hot side and thats where he stayed probably because he didn't have much of a choice I guess but I added the other hide because I was having a lot of flucuation problems with my t-stat before I got the helix and I wanted him to have some place to go if it got to hot on that side. Thanks for the help and i'll move the water bowl to the middle and see if he moves around. Like I said he seems healthy I just want to make sure he stays that way and doesn't develop a RI or something from being to cold. I just bought a new cage since I don't plan to purchase to many more the racks aren't really fit for me so I bought this cage and when my corn snake gets big enough i'll buy another one and stack them....thanks again nick...
