Dysecdysis is what can happen when the snake's environment is too drying (not humid enough). It usually happens around winter time when homes are heated with artifical heat (fans).

Some environments and housing material can also contribute to the problem (wooden cages and some substrates). Mites can also cause dysecdysis.

When a snake is suffering from dysecdysis, the snake owner should first consider the environment and if the environment is fine, then other possibilities should be explored.
