Just wondering how everyone keeps their animals warm when the power goes out for long periods of time.

Since I live on a dairy we have a generator to run the milking barn, that also powers the house. So thats how I deal with an outage.

Last time that happened, I ended up carting the critters to my mom's house, using heat packs to keep them nice and warm during the trip (it was winter then). That time, it was just a couple leopard geckos and my larger more temp sensitive tarantulas. I'd probably do the same thing again. . .but I'm not sure what she'd think about the extra geckos plus 3 snakes. Shocked

Mine too (minus the shoveling)! I wish it was temperate year round in MD. It used to be, but with the global warming...we have been having hot and cold weather, not really anything temperate. I need to purchase a generator myself! Laughing Because when the winter comes, for sure I will experience outages!!

Our power went out a few times this year in the rain (there's something wronge with the thing on the pole) It wasn't cold and the power came back in a few minutes. We've never had the power go out in the winter so...

Then you have been extremely lucky so far. My experience is it's best to have a thing and not need it than need it and not have it. (((searching for a generator now))) Laughing

I live in the bottom end of the Tornado Belt. My worries aren't lack of power, but a twister coming thru. I live in an apartment and the only place to get out of harms way is a 3'x7' under-stair well.

We usually get a 5 min. warning. I have to figure out how to get 3 cats, 2 bearded dragons, 1 uromastyx and 4 snakes + me underneath in 5 minutes. Pray Pray

Hope most of your animals come when called.. I don't really have to worry about much of anything. Ocasional hurricane everynow and again. A tornado once in a blue moon-more if spun off of a hurricane. No snow here, not much of anything except really really DRY and Very HOT--113 in the shade the other day.

we have our hurricane season from June till oct. it has rained 2 times this month and we only got 3 inches total. That is dry even for the swamp. some days it is a very heavy heat and others it is a dry heat.

This gets me thinking now. Question What do you do as far as seasons? I live in Oklahoma, so we do have fall weather and then in November/December it will start t turn cold. The house he lives in will be warm. Is there like a different feeding schedule winter verses summer. I suppose the UTH will still need to be on, but turned down?
Sorry if these are dumb questions. Just havent thought about it or read much on the subject.
Thanks

Unless you are planning on breeding keep him at his normal temps. Changing the tepms around can lead to stress, which in turn leads to a snake that won't eat. Very Happy
