Had a clutch of 9 eggs (spiders) that were expected to hatch on Sunday. A few cut their eggs so I cut them open completely. 1 spider was dead in the egg and the other 8 are normal ball pythons.

I must repent for my sins sayeth the ball python Gods.

Spiders are a dominant morph. Statistically speaking, half the clutch should be normals and the other half spiders. The kicker to it all was that the only spider in the clutch perished in the egg. That's what adds insult to injury.

I guess I need to do some more Pray to redeem myself to the Ball Python Gods.

Ron,
I'll take a normal female off your hands if you want to give up one.

Sorry, Garrett, spiders are co-dom he says.

That is... the babys are normal/normal. If it was recessive they would be het spider. In co-dom a het spider would look like a spider and so would a homo spider.

right? Or is there a super spider morph?

There is no Super Spider (to my knowledge) If there were, it wouldn't be much different than the "normal" Spider. The only way one could tell was that every clutch would be spiders every time. Ron?

(p.s. and if anyone did breed a Super Spider, you can be sure they won't tell us!) Twisted Evil

I think you already did with our transaction, Ron. I have noticed that when people are nice to me, they get blessed. It's even in the bible! LOL "Give and it shall be given to you. I will pour you down a blessing from heaven that there will not be room to receive it!" Go son, you are forgiven. 8)

I'm still a little confused...

Spider/Spider is a Spider
Normal/Spider is a Spider

Isn't that just dominant? Or am I missing something...

Perhaps I can help clear up some misunderstandings with the Spider gene.

I just read my post to this thread a few messages back and I noticed that I incorrectly stated Spiders to be co-dominant. Spiders are dominant, not co-dominant. Let me explain the differences to you...

Co-dom animals are VISUAL HETS because they produce a SUPER version. Pastels are co-doms because they produce a super pastel, Mojave's are co-doms because they produce a super mojave (leucisitic, white snake w/ blue eyes), yellow bellies are cod-doms because they produce an ivory, etc. The differentiating factor between co-doms and simple recessive hets are that you can visually tell which animal is "het" for the super version. You can look at a clutch and see the pastels, mojaves, etc. but you can't tell the difference when looking at recessive het animals. I.E, het albino for example.

Dominant animals are not visual hets and they have no super version. Spiders will produce a clutch with 50% normals and 50% spiders in the clutch, statistically speaking. Pinstripes are another dominant morph that has no super version.

Hopefully this clears the air a bit. If not, let me know what you're having trouble with and I'll try to clarify it better for you.
