Just noticed that the order of the process is skewed..

1. Research and see if you can AFFORD every thing including emergencies
2. Ask questions about the parts you don't understand
3. get the set up established
4. Ask questions about any part of the set up that isn't up to "snuff" someone may have suggestions
5. Get a VET
6. Met the vet and discuss his knowledge of the reptile that is being brought
7.GET THE PET!!
*Now you can enjoy it knowing that everything is in order and you are prepared*

Excellent points Deb.

Wished more people followed them.
Many people get snakes b/c its cool, they think they dont need to take cre of them as much... its sad!

first no one has added to this in over a year i must say this.
If you thing you are just getting another dog or some fish then get those exact pets. I used to own a camein crock its name was Jaws took it because my friends couldn't(or wouldn't) He was in baad shape but i did my best and kept him for 3 years then he died due to my true lack of knowledge.
that was 10 years ago and then i got my bp's but not after finding a vet and making sure all the things stated before were done. i never want to make a mistake again like that and it was a easy thing that lost me jaws..
