will a humidifier work the same? I cant seem to get my humidity up above 30%.

If you seal off the room, perhaps. :smile: The humidifer raises the humidity of the room, not the tank. When I had aquariums, while it raised the over all humidity of the room, it actually did nothing much for the tanks, glass is not a good conductor of humidity 
You will try everything (like I did, because I was set on having my snakes in a decorative environment that I could see and enjoy. I also had plexi glass over HALF the tanks...and wet towel over the other half..it rarely stayed above 40-50. I had a mister...lol got everything wet..raised the humidity, but when it was time to clean the tanks...that wet cement was....((edited for your tender ears))) to get out. I was using reptile bark, then sani-chips.
That is one of the reasons that I switched. I now have Boaphiles and Jason's jungle racks and Beanfarm cages they hold humidity fine, my snakes always (knock wood) shed in one piece without me having to do anything, but provide BIG water dishes for them to soak in if they need additional humidity (their humidity is 60+; I have a humidifier just in case, but I am able to seal off my snake room and if I raise the overall humidity of the room, because of the way they are built it will raise the humidity in their cages too. :wink:
I am interested in knowing the other member's solutions. Perhaps one has found a way to keep up the humidity where I couldn't find one that was also convenient.

Deb - I'll 2nd that!!
My solution to my humidity problem came by accident. I was doing EVERYTHING everybody was telling me and NOTHING was working. My RTB is in an aquarium (for now). I couldn't get his humidity up come H.... or high water. It was at 40-41%. Here is what happened.
I ended up having to treat Eko for mites. Out he came along with all else. Threw away everything, including his metal screen top. When the time came to put him back in, all I had left was another piece of 1/4" plywood laminate that fit on the top of the aquarium. So, with paper towel down + water bowl, hide and a NEW Acurite temp/hydrometer in place and JUST the plywood on top, I now maintain his humidity at 61% +/- 3%. No problem. I leave an opening at the top that is appr. 8"Wx10"D, big enough for a 40W bulb in a clamp light with water underneath. I don't know if the 1st Accurite was malfunctioning, or if the metal screen was the problem, but what ever - I'm good to go now.

Update on Jack
I have fed Jack adult f/t mice the last 3 weeks. He has been doing so good. His feces are good size and brown. So with all the help that I have been getting form this site, and from all of you,  I have to give it 5 stars. Thanks
