Deb or Ron
Is this true for juveniles as well as adults? I still have not seen mine defecate. Is it big or little? He has fed three times (all pinkies). Remember I am new at this so if my questions seem dumb I am sorry.
PS
I also soaked him in warm water today. HE HATED IT.

My peanut hates to get in water--swims around like something is trying to attack him--kinda funny to watch-but he is not very happy with us when we take him out so we limit his time in there.

The feces is relative to the size of the snake for the most part. I've had some of my larger females lay piles that were on par with a large dog.
If you're concerned about a blockage, check the underside to make sure there aren't any abnormal dark discolored areas. You can also run your hand down its underside to feel for hard masses. As long as your ball python is eating and shedding, I wouldn't be too concerned. An occasional warm soaking won't hurt any. In general, they defecate about every two weeks. If they're fasting, they tend not to defecate at all since there's no food present in their stomache or intestines.

Hard to tell from the pictures, but be aware that the undersides of Balls do turn pinkish in pre-shed. Sometimes, the underbelly will turn pink prior to turning brown if it is on a UTH that is too hot, so this can also be a pre-burn warning of the UTH being too hot.
So if your UTH is on the proper settings, then most likely it is a pre-shed pink, an indicator that the Ball is preparing to shed.

Most of the time he stays in his hide hole. I bought a larger water bowl and am using his smaller one to put jungle bed substrate in and keep it a little damp and he sits in there most of the time.
I also bought a thermoter with a probe about 5 or 6 days a go. After that when the temp of the top of the substrate was getting over 100 degrees I then bought a rheostat. Right now it gets about 92 in the warmest part of the day and down to 82 at night. ( I have it on the lowest setting). The light that I have does warm it up a little bit in the daytime so I raised it up higher. Can you think of anything else I an do?
Thanks for all your help.

You are doing great so far! Absolutely following recommended care guides for Ball Pythons...One question: How are you monitoring Humidity? It's good to have a humid hide, how about over all humidity?

We have a hygrometer in the tank. I try to keep it anywhere from 50%-70%.
It was tough at first but now I have a wet towel that stays on one side of the top of the tank. I keep it damp so the humidity does not fall below 50%. At least I try. Some days it gets so hot in the room its in because we have a cat and we keep the door shut.
I talked with a heat and air guy and he is going to come over and look at the air flow going into that room.
He also suggested that I cut the door at the bottom and put a vent on the door itself, that way we have more airflow. I am trying to do whats right for the snake. He is so beautiful and a I am learning so much about his demeanor and personality. I just love to sit and watch him.
Never thought I would be saying that.
