Awesome info, I am concerned about a snake at my local reptile store, its an albino ball with an RI placed on "super sale" (199) with an "ALL SALES FINAL" sign on the tank... I'm worried that they aren't bothering to treat it at all and that they just expect someone to snap it up and take care of it themself. I am definitely going down to ask more about it. Oh yeah- I was also (incorrectly) identified as a spammer.

i have a baby ball pyhon too and he used to strike at me when i had him in his feeding container. You just have to wait until she gets ready to come out of the container. let her begin to crawl out of the cage and take her out when shes done (that will let you know that shes done)

Hmmmm...after reading this I started to think of not buying from the nearby reptile breeder/store because they had a few WC BP babys. I'm only 14 1/2 and i dont think my uncle would like the idea of getting a reptile shipped to him (if i could pay shipping and such, i would buy from you.) I've owned and taken care of a lot of different reptiles since I was 8 , and this place sounds okay...unlike petsmart where my Crestie died almost a year after I got her. (nothing against them, im sure some are ok). the place is this place here : Off The Ark Exotic Pets. I think what im going to do is ask to check out and handle their snakes to check for mites and such and make sure that their cages are clean and temps and humidity are correct. they say they treat their WC snakes for internal and external parasites but most likely im getting one of their "CB" snakes, but ive heard of people just saying that theyre animals are CB so people will buy them (should i ask about parent lines? where they got them?). you seem much smarter than i am about this. what do you think about my plan? (and try not to say buy from you, i would, but i dont think my uncle would want to. hes even reluctant about buying nonliving things online).

Yesterday was the first time I have given my ball python frozen prey, but only the second time I had fed her (she is just a hatchling).<br />
<br />
I put the mouse in the cage and she was immediately interested. Knowing before that she only ate in the dark, I turned all the lights off in my room so I could catch. To give me a little extra light, I turned on my infrared lamp so I could see and the moment I did that, she struck towards the light twice. Although she knew it was feeding time, she relied more on the heat signature than anything else to feed despite the fact that she was lying directly on the mouse I placed in the cage.<br />
<br />
After that, I had decided that I would heat the mouse hot water instead of just warm water...that way, she would be able to "see" it much better.

I will certainly try some of the tips here. I recently adopted a mostly neglected ball python. When I got him, his habitat was filthy, his hide was full of shed skin, and he was fed regularly in his cage. There was alos a lot of marijuana smoked in his environment.<br />
<br />
The first couple weeks he was ok, only trying to strike at me once or twice. But in the last ten days he will not let my hand in his habitat at all. He strikes at everything. I had to use a hook to take him out a few days ago and he struck repeatedly at his heat lamp. If I try to hold him he squirms like crazy trying to get around to bite me. His temperature kept at around 80, and I'm doing what I can to keep humidity up but it generally rests around 40%. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Josh: I've never used Eco-Earth so I can't be of much help to you about that product. We do use aspen and it's a pretty decent substrate. I'm sure one of our members in the ball python forum has used Eco-Earth and can be of more assistance about this product. Please post your question there for a quick response from our members.

Do you think that Eco-Earth is a good substrate for a Ball Python? I've read mixed things on that...some say aspen and other's use Eco-Earth. What would you recommend?
