Hi! Just discovered your site. I also just bought my first ball python! It's really exciting. I'm going to try to feed him for the first time today, so wish me luck.

Thanks! Good luck with the site!

That's awful. Don't you feel anything for those poor little mice and rats? I supposee it's necessary to keep your snakes alive, but you sound like you enjoy it.

Lainy: I don't enjoy it, it's just necessary and occurs naturally in the wild (ie. food chain).

It is natural for snakes to eat mice!!! And if you think mice are so nice smell a couple some time that might change your mind!

Dear Steph,

I have smelled plenty of mice and that has oh so surprisingly not shifted my opinion on this issue

What the **** is natural about a mouse or rat bred and selected by a human being stuck in a vivarium with no escape whatsoever with a snake, which also has no business being there?

This is clearly some form of pathetic bloodlust or ego massage for this pathetic individual, as frozen foods can be purchased...or ooh, let me see, better yet he could not have his ****ing snake

Sanity and others,
I have kept both rodents and snakes of different kinds, so I don't favor one over the others. However, I felt I should share my opinion and maybe enlighten those who are narrow minded. All animals can smell, so that's not a good arguement. BUT! it is life for animals to consume other animals to thrive. Look at it this way Sanity, since you find it wrong to trap a helpless mouse in a cage with a snake, do humans not fence in cows, chickens, etc. then slaughter them to eat? So you can not claim it is unfair, it is vital to the snakes survival to provide food (such as mice) which can easiy be obtained as it is to us.
As humans we are fascinated by the animal world and have found ways to "tame" and keep most animals, including mice which at one time (though not particularly the current variety) were wild. So you can't say keeping a snake is "wrong", then you must also say keeping mice are wrong. Some people find feeding rodents to reptiles cruel, but you are looking at it with a biased opinion. Take a moment to realize that even though you may find it is upsetting, it is vital for MANY animals to consume rodents in order to live. Also, if you do not have reptiles or mice do not judge the other side, as you can't fully grasp how that person feels, instead accept the fact that everyone has their own opinions. Those with open minds find greater understanding of our complicated world.
I know this comment will most likely be slammed by others, but I will say to you, I am sorry that you can't live life with an open mind...

ay wat trev said is so cruel!!! its alive!! it didnt do anything to you =/ i treat my snales food like kings and queens before being eaten ^-^ and think thats the nicest thing i can do for them for keeping my snake alive hehe

I have a snow corn snake and also two pet mice. I can tell you, there are times when the snake smells worse than the mice. I do have to agree that it is cruel to put a live animal in a freezer. Even if it is a rat, it is a sentient being.

i would have to agree i treat my mice and rats like kings well they are alive nut when it comes time i do what needs to be done i even name my mice and rats so i have pot micky on the menu so it is all good and you do not have to worry they understand and it is the same i say to vegys they go on about the killing of anamles all the vegables that vegys eat were live at one time so was the food that you feed your rats and mice so it is all they same the only difrence is that sunflowers dont scream so i guess that makes it ok not if you do not like the killing of anamles you sould not like the killing of the plants and things you give mice and rats or that you eat so you starve iwill not let my rat mice or snakes starve so think about that

To the person who posted the frozen alternative to feed a snake it takes alot of effort to get a snake to switch to them especially if they were wild caught.

Those frozen rats were killed with Co2.

Breeding and raising snakes is a hobby just like any other hobby. People spend alot of time and money to care for rats, mice, etc. for food for reptiles. Not just snakes eat rats and mice. I breed rats and mice for my snakes and feed live! Its the snakes job to do the killing just like in the wild. I have never been bitten and have picky eaters so whatever! Food live or dead is still food! You buy meat at the store you know it was raised and killed for food. That's the same for rodents and reptiles!!!
