A Scrumptious Batter Exposed
I'm going to share a recipe of a batter with you today. No, it's not the secret recipe used for making KFC chicken, it's the secret recipe used for making delicious rats!
If your hatchling ball pythons prefer mice over rats, use this recipe to make a batter that most ball pythons will enjoy. Are you ready for the 11 secret herbs and spices? Here they go!
Do you see the the ingredients in the above photo? Take a closer look at the photo. See the ingredients now? No, it's not the mice themselves but their soiled substrate! Yes, their substrate is the batter used to coat rats with. It's called "scenting" and is the term used to describe masking the scent of your rats with the scent of mice.
I remove the soiled substrate from the breeder cages of my mice and place the rats in it (rat pinkies, rat pups, weaned rats, etc) for a minute or two. I make sure the rats are completely covered in the soiled substrate and then I offer them to my ball pythons that only eat mice. Most of the ball pythons will smell them by flicking their tongue and then they'll grab, constrict and consume the prey item. Bon Appétit!
Have a happy 4th of July!
Thanks! Good luck with the site!
i dnt get thow if you harm the mice...?
can some one tell me cuz i dnt get it
but mice ae cute, im hopefuly getting one
I have smelled plenty of mice and that has oh so surprisingly not shifted my opinion on this issue
What the **** is natural about a mouse or rat bred and selected by a human being stuck in a vivarium with no escape whatsoever with a snake, which also has no business being there?
This is clearly some form of pathetic bloodlust or ego massage for this pathetic individual, as frozen foods can be purchased...or ooh, let me see, better yet he could not have his ****ing snake
I have kept both rodents and snakes of different kinds, so I don't favor one over the others. However, I felt I should share my opinion and maybe enlighten those who are narrow minded. All animals can smell, so that's not a good arguement. BUT! it is life for animals to consume other animals to thrive. Look at it this way Sanity, since you find it wrong to trap a helpless mouse in a cage with a snake, do humans not fence in cows, chickens, etc. then slaughter them to eat? So you can not claim it is unfair, it is vital to the snakes survival to provide food (such as mice) which can easiy be obtained as it is to us.
As humans we are fascinated by the animal world and have found ways to "tame" and keep most animals, including mice which at one time (though not particularly the current variety) were wild. So you can't say keeping a snake is "wrong", then you must also say keeping mice are wrong. Some people find feeding rodents to reptiles cruel, but you are looking at it with a biased opinion. Take a moment to realize that even though you may find it is upsetting, it is vital for MANY animals to consume rodents in order to live. Also, if you do not have reptiles or mice do not judge the other side, as you can't fully grasp how that person feels, instead accept the fact that everyone has their own opinions. Those with open minds find greater understanding of our complicated world.
I know this comment will most likely be slammed by others, but I will say to you, I am sorry that you can't live life with an open mind...
ohhhhh those poor little mice!!!!!!
if i could throw on mickey mouse i f*ckin would!
Those frozen rats were killed with Co2.
Breeding and raising snakes is a hobby just like any other hobby. People spend alot of time and money to care for rats, mice, etc. for food for reptiles. Not just snakes eat rats and mice. I breed rats and mice for my snakes and feed live! Its the snakes job to do the killing just like in the wild. I have never been bitten and have picky eaters so whatever! Food live or dead is still food! You buy meat at the store you know it was raised and killed for food. That's the same for rodents and reptiles!!!
